Managing Osteoarthritis Pain

Osteoarthritis is classified as a chronic disease which has no cure, so it becomes imperative to ensure it is carefully watched and treated as it can be life-changing. There are multiple means of managing this disease in regards to the pain, as well as preventative techniques which can be employed. Below are some recommended treatment options and tips which may assist in alleviating pain associated with osteoarthritis, as well as any other impacts that may be linked to it.

Exercise Regularly:

  1. Exercise is considered to assist individuals who suffer from osteoarthritis as it can heighten energy levels, as well as strengthen muscles and bones, which allow for joints to remain flexible. The implementation of both aerobic and resistance training is suggested. Aerobic exercises can promote weight loss, which often assists in lifting stress off of painful joints. On the other hand, resistance training results in stronger muscles, which can provide support for joints and protect them from enduring worsened pain levels. Exercise, however, should only be done in moderation and pushing the body beyond its limits through excessive exercise will only aggravate the injured joints. Keeping active is recommended when pain is at a minimal as exercising whilst sore will only worsen the injuries.

Eat Healthy:

  1. Experts have recommended that consuming a diet which includes foods filled with vitamin C as well as omega-3 fatty acids can be particularly beneficial for osteoarthritis. Rather than taking supplements, having health foods like fish, lean meat, low-fat dairy and whole grains is advocated.

A Regular Sleeping Pattern:

  1. For the symptoms of osteoarthritis, it is recommended that a sufficient night of sleep can be helpful as it allows individuals to manage their stress levels. It is suggested that distractions including computers and televisions be removed from the bedroom, as it does allow the process to be made easier. Further, adding extra pillows to your bed if you suffer from osteoarthritis pain can be beneficial to the impacted joints as it assists in lifting pressure off of them.
